Layover's 'depARTure' gallery
rotates installations from local artists monthly~
Born and raised in the Bay Area, Priya's work is an extension of her life, where she tries to find a balance between chaos and reality, through mixing realism with the splatters and chaotic nature of paint. Priya uses mixed media, which includes acrylics and aerosols in order to express an array of emotions down to colors, lines, splatters, and textures. Her roots are in Punjab, India hence her focus is on South Asian struggles and giving them a voice through the language of art. Her recent work has been in giving the farmer suicides in Punjab a new voice, with her latest series ANDROGYN. Priya is a self-taught artist that also steps away from the canvas to contribute to the community by building murals with the youth and for solidarity movements.
TOM GIBBONS (a.k.a. Gibby)
Born and raised in Texas and has been a Bay Area artist for 30 years. Working as an Illustrator, bronze caster, metal worker, jewelry designer, and other odds and ends. The “Layover” paintings are a collection of older black and white illustrations, and newer paintings of Oakland and Texas landscapes.
The work is acrylic, spray paint, and pencil– scraped, sanded, and layered. Each layer feeds the next, sometimes ground back down and then built up again waiting for the “accident” that leads to its completion. Some works take as little as 2 weeks and others go on for years.
